This week's topic is of course Valentine's. Have you had an awful or hilarious Valentine's experience that you'd like to share? Or a truly terrible Valentine's verse composed for or by you? If so please contact me. I'll be posting a selection of the best (i.e. worst) or funniest responses I get here over the next few weeks.
"When I was in high school I invited a girl out on a date on Valentine's. I offered to treat her to dinner at TGI Fridays and was really pleased when she accepted. However I realized half way through the meal that I that I didn't have enough money to pay the bill. My date didn't have any cash with her so she ended up phoning her mum who came and settled the bill before driving us home. So not cool." Simon from Glasgow, Scotland "My first Valentine's present was a large chocolate heart given to me when I was ten by a boy in my class at school. I SO wanted to keep it to show off to my family and friends but greed overcame me and I ate it right away so just had to display the wrapper it came in which didn't look quite so impressive. Fortunately he'd also given me a fake rose doused with perfume which I'd no desire to scoff so I did have something to show off after all." Louise from Glasgow, Scotland "I'm ashamed to say when I was a teenager I dated two boys at the same time neither of whom of course knew about my fickle two timing behaviour. Come Valentine's one of them sent roses to me at home without signing the card. My dilemma of course was who to thank for the flowers. If I said nothing to either, or thanked the wrong one…oops. In the end I just had to guess who I thought might be the one to send me flowers and thank him. I guessed right and I'm married to him today." Katie from Auckland, New Zealand who is now, she assures me, a faithful one man girl. "Being a good Catholic girl I'd decided to give up chocolates for Lent. Imagine the temptation then when my boyfriend bought me a large luscious box of chocolates for Valentine's. I was gutted and had to try to hide the chocs from myself for weeks! I made it though and when Easter came I had chocolate for breakfast lunch and dinner." Janette from Clermont-Ferrand, France |
