Earlier Talkback - Liz's Valentine's Experience

"It's so unfair. Why is it that some girls get lots of Valentine's whilst others like me get none?"

Why indeed? Teenage Kelly Ann's lament in My Desperate Love Diary is just one of the many injustices life doles out to some of us. A long time ago I shared a flat with a stunning looking girlfriend in London. On Valentine's morning the postman plopped nine envelopes through our letter box. All of them Valentine's cards…. and none of them for me. The worst thing about it was that my friend, a very nice person, was gutted for me and her anguished expression said she'd have given me a couple of her cards if she could. Oh the bitter taste of a good friend's pity!

That certainly wasn't one of my best Valentine's experiences however there's usually a lot I enjoy about this special day. For a start it's practically obligatory to eat chocolate so you can ditch the diet without guilt. And I love the colours. Blood red roses and cheerful scarlet or candy-pink hearts. It's fun too reading other people's mushy Valentine messages in newspapers and sniggering at the cheesy nicknames 'fluffy bum loves twinkie winkie'. Then of course there's the poetry: nice or naff, passionate or puke inducing, Valentine's wouldn't be the same without it.

This year why not really enter into the romantic spirit of things and have a go at composing poetry for the one you love? Perhaps you can get some inspiration from Kelly Ann who wrote this verse for a boy she calls just 'G' in her diary.

Hmm, on second thoughts, maybe not the best place to look for inspiration after all. Instead of poetry why not just send your crush an ecard like the one from Random House's Kelly Ann minisite? Go on, make someone's day and click here:
